Briefing

1 SITUATION

1.1 Overview

Having uncovered extensive evidence that “Osama bin Laden”, the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks, was in fact the cover name of a Russian nationalist/disgruntled Soviet nostalgic named Osip Bogdan Lada, the White House is in the process of setting the Navy on a war footing with the Russian Federation, whilst simultaneously apologising to the nation state of Afghanistan for accidentally overrunning the country in search of an imagined terrorist leader thought to be residing there in what the CIA now categorises as a “fairly large whoopsie daisy, but we're still fairly sure about this Iraq WMD matter being a sure thing.”

1.2 Area of operations

Northern coast of the Russian Kola Peninsula.

1.4 Air threats

Su-27, MiG-29

Su-27 and MiG-29 squadrons operate in the area. Expect main threat from closest enemy air bases. Intel estimates that the Russian Air Force can muster limited interceptions in response to detected threats, but is unlikely to be capable of maintaining a continuous CAP presence.

Russian air activity has ramped up in response to the our continued strikes of the last few days. Consequently, further strike aircraft will perform partial self escort and be provided F/A-18 escorts to counter this risk.

1.5 Ground threats

AAA, MANPADS, SA-8, SA-10, SA-11, SA-15, guided missile cruiser Moskva

SA-10s provide the major long range air defences in the region, typically defended by SA-11s or SA-15s. Specific point targets have also been provided defence by SA-11s batteries.

Additionally, Russian Electronic Warfare efforts have disrupted efficient radio communications with USAF callsign Stingray supporting the operation to differing degrees. Datalink transmissions from Stingray remain unaffected as of yet.

1.6 Friendly forces

N/A, we are the only blue forces in the AO. The Task Force will not be launching other strikes as of yet.

1.7 Civilian/3rd part

Civilian air traffic is heavily reduced owing to recent shoot-downs.

2 MISSION

The package will guided missile cruiser Moskva to reduce last significant Russian air defences covering the Northern portion of the Kola peninsula.

3 EXECUTION

3.1 Commander’s intent

Destroy missile cruiser Moskva.

3.2 Packages

The mission contains 1 package, callsign JOLLY. All flights are part of package JOLLY.

3.3 Order of events

This operation is divided into four phases which will be conducted chronologically: Escorting the package to the target, SEAD, strike crusier Moskva, RTB.

  1. F/A-18s will escort the package to the target area.
  2. F/A-18s engage local air defences and airborne interceptors interfering with the package’s progress to and strike on cruiser Moskva.
  3. F-14s strike cruiser Moskva in low level JDAM attacks.
  4. Package will RTB immediately om completion of the strike.
