Briefing
1 SITUATION
1.1 Overview
Having uncovered extensive evidence that “Osama bin Laden”, the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks, was in fact the cover name of a Russian nationalist/disgruntled Soviet nostalgic named Osip Bogdan Lada, the White House is in the process of setting the Navy on a war footing with the Russian Federation, whilst simultaneously apologising to the nation state of Afghanistan for accidentally overrunning the country in search of an imagined terrorist leader thought to be residing there in what the CIA now categorises as a “fairly large whoopsie daisy, but we're still fairly sure about this Iraq WMD matter being a sure thing.”
1.2 Area of operations
Airbase on the northern coast of the Russian Kola Peninsula.
1.4 Air threats
Su-27, MiG-29
Su-27 and MiG-29 squadrons operate in the area. Expect main threat from closest enemy air bases. Intel estimates that the Russian Air Force can muster limited interceptions in response to detected threats, but is unlikely to be capable of maintaining a continuous CAP presence.
Russian air activity has ramped up in response to the March 9th OCA strike. As a result of this, this strike package will perform self escort (2 AIM-54s in place of 2 bombs) to counter this risk.
1.5 Ground threats
AAA, MANPADS, SA-8, SA-10, SA-11, SA-15
SA-10s provide the major long range air defences in the region, typically defended by SA-11s or SA-15s. Specific point targets have also been provided defence by SA-11s batteries.
1.6 Friendly forces
N/A, we are the only blue forces in the AO. The Task Force will not be launching other strikes as of yet.
1.7 Civilian/3rd part
Civilian air traffic is still active in the region.
2 MISSION
The Task Force will conduct air strikes to destroy targeted highway and railway bridges along MSRs Alpha and Bravo to cut off the supply of aviation fuel and ordnance to airbases facilitating point interceptors and rotary wing operations.
3 EXECUTION
3.1 Commander’s intent
Destroy targeted bridges at Targets Alpha and Bravo.
3.2 Packages
The mission contains 1 package, callsign DANCER. All flights are part of package DANCER.
3.3 Order of events
This operation is divided into four phases which will be conducted chronologically: Escorting the package to the target, SEAD, strike MSR Alpha and MSR Bravo, RTB.
- F/A-18s will escort the package at low level to the target area and establish a medium altitude CAP.
- F/A-18s engage local air defences interfering with the package’s progress to and strike on MSR Alpha and MSR Bravo.
- F-14s strike assigned targets at MSR Alpha and Bravo in low level JDAM loft attacks.
- Package will RTB immediately om completion of the strike.
