Training Tuesday – Dissimilar ACM

Training Mission: Caucasus

Planned Training:

1. F/A-18C, F-16C, F-14B, REDFOR MiG-21 and F-5e: Practice Air Combat Maneuvering in dissimilar setups, simulating encounters that occur on missions.

A) 2v1 or 2v2 WVR with redfor in an offensive position at “fight’s on”. Focus on communications with your wingman. Determine engaged and supporting roles. Call out altitudes and directions to help the supporting fighter find his target. Defend long enough for the supporting fighter to gain the advantage on the Bandit.

B) BVR setup 2v2 or 4v2 head-on @80+ nm. Datalinks are available but no AWACS support. Blue pilots at altitude, redfor at low level using terrain masking. Practice formations and radar search patterns. Engage the Bandits BVR if possible. Stay vigilant, this may turn into a dogfight before you know it.
