OPORD PKG QUARTERBACK
Situation
Third night of the campaign. The ground offensive in our AO is behind schedule. Allied Command will conduct an airborne infantry assault on Damascus Intl Airport (OBJ TEXAS) with the objectives of gaining combat momentum and gaining a staging area for an upcoming push towards Tiyas and Palmyra. (ANNEX 1)
Air superiority is now challenged. Dispersed road bases in the Palmyra region were utilized yesterday, with a launch of two MiG-21:s. SIGINT indicates increasing activity involving arming and refueling of aircraft at similar locations. Offensive air operations by the SyAF are likely imminent.
The strategic SAM threat is light, the only significant battery being the SA-11 near Palmyra. We have also seen sporadic use of SA-6 search radars near Palmyra but have been unable to pinpoint their locations. SHORADS such as SA-8 and SA-13 are still plentiful throughout the AO.
Objectives
- Support the assault on Damascus Intl by providing SEAD prior to the offensive.
- Locate and destroy road bases W and SW of Palmyra.
- Provide CAP.
Resources
- Aircraft: 2-4 flights of F/A-18C and 1-2 flights of F-16C
- If required, further CAP support can be requested from Saudi.
- Tankers: 4x KC-135 (2x Navy, 2x Air Force).
- Texaco2 (102Y) @A16 bulls 225/30
- Texaco4 (104Y) @A18 bulls 225/30
- Arco1 (101Y) @A18 bulls 135/35
- Arco5 (105Y) @A20 bulls 135/35
- CVN-72 operates off the coast of Lebanon.
- Jordanian air base King Hussein Air College is at your disposal. (We have also captured Khalkhalah air base but with the runways disabled it will only be used for rotary wing operations)
- Friendly SAM cover consists of Patriot batteries at Kiryat Shmona and Tha’lah. Also, a Hawk battery has been forward deployed to Khalkhalah.
Mission Details
Assault on Damascus Intl.
Rotary wing elements will airlift infantry to three separate LZ:s at Damascus Intl (OBJECTIVE TEXAS). AH-64D provides escort and CAS. A-10 provides rear guard against armored reinforcements. Prior to the assault, conduct SEAD vs SHORADS and AAA installations. During yesterday’s mission, pkg ANVIL obtained quality photo recon of the airport. Known ZSU-23 emplacements marked on map (ANNEX 2). SA-8 units have been spotted in the area but are moved at irregular intervals, no precise location can be given.
The airlifted assault begins at 03:45. DO NOT engage ground targets after this time without prior authorization from STINGRAY.
ORDERS:
- Suppress enemy air defences in a 10 nm zone centered on Damascus Intl Airport, known targets disabled NLT 03:30 local time. Report INTERFERENCE on success
- Maintain SEAD patrol over said area from 03:30-03:45
Locate and destroy dispersed road bases around Palmyra
Four areas of interest have been determined by INTEL (ANNEX 3): NAI Dolphin, Cardinal, Bear and Viking. The areas are adjacent to straight roads that could be suitable for dispersed operations by MiG-21 and/or MiG-29. Expect logistics assets such as refueling trucks, ordnance storage and living quarters. Likely presence of SHORADS (SA-8, SA-13, MANPADS, ZSU-23 Shilka). The SA-11 site near Palmyra may interfere with your operation and can be targeted, resources permitting.
Details on NAIs
- Dolphin – 3,5 nm of straight road, direction 344. Small collection of houses at the southern end, otherwise uninhabited
- Cardinal – 4 nm of straight road, direction 037. Uninhabited.
- Bear – 2 nm of straight road, direction 023. Small mining village of Sharqiyah at the southwestern end.
- Viking – 4 nm of straight road, direction 330. Village Al Ulayyahiyah at the southeastern end
ORDERS:
- Destroy SAA and SyAF assets found in NAIs. Target priority: 1) Aircraft on the ground, 2) Logistics, 3) SHORADS, 4) Armor, IFVs and infantry
- For each NAI report either NO JOY or CONFIRMED after recon. If confirmed, report FIELD GOAL on estimated destruction of more than half of priority 1 and 2 targets.
- Secondary objective: DEAD vs SA-11 Palmyra, report HERITAGE on success
CAP
All hostile air operations are expected to emanate from the dispersed road bases around Tiyas and Palmyra. All known airfields in our AO are still disabled. SyAF resources at this time are estimated at 6-8x MiG-21 and 4-6x MiG-29. The road bases have limited resources and it is unlikely that each will be able to launch more than one sortie of 2 aircraft per hour.
ORDERS:
- Maintain CAP from 03:00 to 05:30 with emphasis on sanitizing a 40 nm zone centered on Damascus Intl.
