1 SITUATION

1.1 Overview

CJTF-OR (Combined Joint Task Force – Operation resilience) have put together a large task force to stabilize the region and remove any threats from terrorist. I short term…. we need to secure US interest in the region. CJTF Operates out of Incirlik, CVN-72, At-Tanf and FOB:s.
Russia has a strong present in the area and operates primarily out of Latakia and their AFB at Bassel Al-Assad. The fact that they operate freely in the air and on the ground in Syria complicates our operation. We cannot risk a direct conflict with Russia at this point. (More on this under ROE).

1.2 Area of operations

The whole area W and NW of DAMASCUS (SYRIA).

1.3 Time and weather

* June 1 – 2021
* 09:00 local time
* Light Scattered (7000′-8000′)
* Wind 268 / 2
* FORCE QNH 3003 / 1017

1.4 Air threats

MiG-21, MiG-25, MiG-29

MiG-21s, MiG-25s and occasional MIG-29s have been reported. Expect main threat from closest enemy air bases, located SE and N of DAMASCUS. Intel estimates that the Syrian Air Force will have routine CAP over target area and can launch 4-8 fighters in short succession from bases close to DAMASCUS. Additional fighters can reinforce from other bases after a timespan of 30 mins from first engagements.

1.5 Ground threats

BMP-2, ZSU-23 Shilka, MANPADS, SA-13, SA-6, SA-10

NOTE that the Syrian SAM:s are NOT in red state at present time!

1.6 Friendly forces

N/A, we are the only blue forces in the AO.

1.7 Civilian/3rd part

Civilian air traffic is still active in some parts of eastern Syria. Russia has a strong present in the area and operates primarily out of Latakia and their AFB at Bassel Al-Assad.

2 MISSION

CJTF-OR are sending troops and armor to seize the town of Deir ez-Zor and especially the airport. This will serve as a FOB for our next tasking. The convoy is coming down on highway 7 from the town of Al Suwar. A long the route our AH-64 will provide CAS until the convoy safely enters the compounds of the airfield. C-130: s is also enroute from Incirlik with additional troops and resources and need to arrive safely. F-16 and F/A-18 will provide CAP in the operations area. F-16, F/A-18 and F-15E to strike key “insurgent” targets.

3 EXECUTION

3.1 Commander’s intent

To secure the establishing of an FOB at Deir ez-Zor by providing cover for taskforce BRAVO. Deir ez-Zor are a stronghold for the insurgents, and we must expect resistance during the capture of the airfield. SALTY1 are to provide cover for the incoming taskforce BRAVO.  JESTER are to clear the insurgents camp at target TANGO and to stay on station until the taskforce arrives. ARCTIC and INDY are to provide CAP in the AO decided by STINGRAY. Note that there are a lot of traffic in the area by both the Russian and the Syrian Airforce. All contacts need to be identified. HITMAN is to reduce the income to the insurgents by taking out their oil production at PAPA. BENDER are tsked to do the same at there target QUEBEC and arms factory at SIERRA.

NOTE to all flights. There will be a lot of traffic both in the air and on the ground. You NEED to identify any possible contacts that are NOT designated as a target in this brief. Failure to do so will give us massive consequences.

Good luck out there!
