SUMMARY:In the Dark - Part II
DESCRIPTION:RSVP: 25 11 27 – 19:30 (please sign-up asap though\, as it makes things easier to plan)\nActivity: Mission – SEAD\, BAI\, STRIKE\nTheatre: Syria\nModules: Any modern or cold war era aircraft (but find a buddy to make it at least a 2-ship)\nPrerequisites: None (it is a daytime mission)\nVersion 1.2 \n\n Package ALPHA\n PL: kaninmat \nF/A-18C SEAD\nARCTIC11 (400): Moose\nARCTIC12 (401): kaninmat\nARCTIC13 (402): Johnny \nF/A-18C SEAD\nBENDER21 (404): deadlift\nBENDER22 (405): Makanan\nBENDER23 (406): Jaeger \n \n\n Flights\n AH-64D BAI\nRAGE92: MushroomLustard / BFQ\nRAGE92: Asken / Kingtiger45 \nKa-50 BAI\nORCA61: JackFlash\nORCA62: Puppysworth \nAJS 37 STRIKE\nFENRIS61: Fille\nFENRIS62: frefeh \nA-10C STRIKE\nPIG71: Hofftari\nPIG72: Ulvar\nPIG73: BigSwede \nF-16C CAP\nINDY91: pahi\nINDY92: undefined\nINDY93: Qvintus \nF-15E Strike\nHITMAN31: DeadGun \n \n\n Support\n AWACS\nSTINGRAY: Blichten\nSTINKRAY: Tony \nAirport\nGround: Apollo\nTower: Apollo \nGround Forces\nCHARLIE6: Nikemo \n \n1 SITUATION\n1.1 Overview\nGeneral overview as per briefing In the Dark pt1 \nThis morning’s reconnaissance of the area yielded good results. Our onboard sensors have visually located a possible location for the jamming\, which was later confirmed by our A-10 pilots who managed to pinpoint the signal to the same area. At the same time\, we have collected information from active air defenses in the area. The time to strike is now! \n1.2 Area of operations\nBeqaa Valley\, Lebanon\, and surrounding countries. \n1.3 Time and weather\n* September 10 – 2001\n* 15:00 local time\n* BKN 8/18/30\n* Wind from 250 / 7\n* FORCE QNH 2992 / 1013\n* Temp 26°C \n1.4 Air threats\nTwo Il-76 “Candid” and two Mi-8 “Hip” located at Rayak airfield.\nRrecords do not suggest any fighter or strike aircraft having landed at Rayak in recent time. \n1.5 Ground threats\nSA-10 “Grumble” located south of Rayak airfield. \nSeveral mobile SAM systems are active in the area:\nOne SA-22 “Greyhound” was located northwest of Rayak airfield.\nOne SA-15 “Gauntlet” located 8NM east of Rayak airfield.\nOne SA-15 “Gauntlet” located 9NM north of Rayak airfield.\nOne SA-8 “Gecko” located 14NM southwest of Rayak airfield. \nExpect these systems to have regrouped by the time of our next attack. However\, the assessment is that their tasks remain the same. One SA-22 as point-defence at Rayak airfield\, one SA-15 point-defence at EWR\, one SA-15 north of airfield to deny any attack from the north towards Rayak area and SA-8s\, ZSU-23s as close protection to enemy troops in the area. Expect all infantry to carry MANPADS\, mainly SA-18s. \nMultiple ground units have been located along the roads towards Rayak. Company sized force defending SQUIRREL\, Platoon to Company sized force defending WOMBAT. The platoon sized force defending ELEPHANT was reduced in nubres by our attack helicotpers during this mornings operation. The assessment is that only a small outpost (36S YC 7497 3402\, 4654ft) remains. This will be our way in to Rayak. \n1.6 Friendly forces\nMainly air power: One Carrier Strike Group in the eastern part of the Mediterranean. Israeli forces at Ramat David. Russian forces at Bassel Al-Assad. Other nationalities joining in as we speak. Limited ground forces from Israel and Lebanon. \n1.7 Civilian/3rd part\nCivilian air traffic is firmly grounded. There has been no evacuation of civilians from the Beqaa Valley area. \n2 MISSION\nDestroy the uplink site. \n3 EXECUTION\n3.1 Endstate\nThe mission is completed when the uplink site is destroyed and the enemy no longer has the ability to continue their attacks. \n3.2 Concept of Operations\nInitially one flight attacks EWR\nThen one package suppress enemy air defences\nFinally two flights attacks uplink site \nSimultaneously one package supports the advance of our own ground forces in the south AO. \n3.3 Rules of engagement\nROE: C\nAs per SPINS \n3.4 Acceptable level of risk\nALR: EXTREME\nAs per SPINS \n3.5 Tasking\nPackage Alpha\nSEAD with ADM-141\, H-hour – 3 until H-hour + 1\nSEAD with AGM-88 on H-hour\nBe prepared to SUPPORT package BRAVO with SEAD (30min after orders)\nBe prepared to INTERCEPT hostile aircrafts\nBe prepared to DESTROY uplink site \nRAGE9\nCLEAR ELEPHANT\nBe prepared to GUARD Charlie6\nBe prepared to DESTROY uplink site (30min after orders) \nORCA6\nCLEAR SQUIRREL \nPIG7\nDESTROY uplink site on H-hour \nINDY9\nDESTROY uplink site on H-hour \nFENRIS6\nDESTROY EWR\, ToT 101545 local\nREFUEL/REARM at Damascus Intl. SUMMARY:In the Dark - Part Two
DESCRIPTION:RSVP: 25 11 13 – 19:30 (please sign-up asap though\, as it makes things easier to plan)\nActivity: Mission – SEAD\, Air Interdiction\, Strike\nTheatre: Syria\nModules: Any modern or cold war era aircraft (but find a buddy to make it at least a 2-ship)\nPrerequisites: None (it is a daytime mission)\nVersion 1.6 \n\n ALPHA\n PL: kaninmat \nF/A-18C\nARCTIC11 (400): Moose\nARCTIC12 (401): kaninmat\nARCTIC13 (402): pancake\nARCTIC14 (403): Makanan \nF/A-18C\nBENDER21 (404): deadlift\nBENDER22 (405): Bankler\nBENDER23 (406): Johnny\nBENDER24 (407): \nF-16C\nINDY91: pahi\nINDY92: undefined\nINDY93: Widen\nINDY94: \n \n\n BRAVO\n AH-64D\nRAGE91: MushroomLustard / BFQ\nRAGE92: Grytvanten / (Troll)? \nKa-50\nORCA\nPuppysworth\nJackFlash \nOH-58D\nBLACKJACK41: Asken / Kingtiger45 \n \n\n Single Flights\n A-10C\nHAWG81: Baconbomb\nHAWG82: Ulvar\nHAWG83: Hofftari \nAJS 37\nFENRIS61: Goofy\nFENRIS62: frefeh \n \n\n Support\n AWACS\nSTINGRAY: Apollo\nSTINKRAY: Tony\nSTINGRAY: Blichten \nAirport\nGround: Nikemo\nTower: Nikemo\n \n1 SITUATION\n1.1 Overview\nGeneral overview as per briefing In the Dark pt1 \nThis morning’s reconnaissance of the area yielded good results. \n3.2 Concept of Operations\nInitially one package attacks SA-15 and SA-10\nThen one flight attacks EWR\nFinally one package attacks uplink site coordinated in time \nSimultaneously one package attacks against enemy ground forces and one flight supporting the advance of our own ground forces. \n3.3 Rules of engagement\nROE: C\nAs per SPINS \n3.4 Acceptable level of risk\nALR: EXTREME\nAs per SPINS \n3.5 Package tasking\nPackage Alpha\nNEUTRALIZE SA-10 NLT 101600 local\nNEUTRALIZE SA-15 close to EWR NLT 101600 local\nDESTROY uplink site\, coordinated in time and from at least two different directions\nBe prepared to SUPPORT package BRAVO and HAWG8 with SEAD\nBe prepared to INTERCEPT hostile aircrafts \nPackage Bravo\nSEIZE outpost (36S YC 7497 3402. 4654 FT)\nCLEAR ELEPHANT\nBe prepared to GUARD Charlie6-1 \nHAWG\nCONTAIN enemy ground forces at SQUIRREL\nBe prepared to SUPPORT package BRAVO / Charlie6-1 with BAI \nFENRIS\nDESTROY EWR\, ToT 101605 local \n4 ADMINISTRATION AND LOGISTICS\n4.1 Airfield operations\n* Ramat David\n* TCN: 84X\n* Active runway: 27 \n* Damascus Intl\n* Actice runway: 23R\n* Traffic freq: 272.00 \n* Kiryat Shmona\n* Active runway: 21\n* Traffic freq: 271.00 \n* FARP Damascus West\n* 37 S BT 2678 1262 elev 3238 ft\n* Beacon on AM 210 kHz \n4.2 Carrier operations\n* CASE 1\n* BRC: 278\n* Departure time: According to PL\n* Departure sequence: According to PL\n* Charlie time: 17:20 \nAs per Carrier Ops SPINS\n \n4.3 Tankers\nAs per Aerial Refueling SOP \n5 COMMAND AND CONTROL\n5.1 Commander\n* Mission commander is DEADGUN\n* Mission commander deputy: TBA \n5.2 Frequencies\nAs per Comms SOP \n5.3 Authentication\nRAMROD: KPISTRULEZ\nAs per Authentication SOP \n5.4 Freq flow (Airfield flights)\n6\, 7\, 9\, 3\, 7\, 6\nRemain on Tower (ch 7) during startup and departure. Until it’s suddenly not there anymore. No satellite television\, no global positioning systems\, no long range communications\, and perhaps most alarming for a nation state – no satellite intel. \nFor the first few minutes it was thought to be just a ‘glitch’. But nothing came back online. Panic followed. The realisation set in\, that right now someone could be launching a first strike and you wouldn’t know until the warheads started falling from the sky. Air Force One took off. Alert interceptors scrambled all over the continent. Strategic forces went to high alert and for a moment it seemed that someone might actually go ahead and pull THE trigger just for fear of being the last to unholster their gun. Then reports started to trickle in that this wasn’t just affecting us. It was everyone. The Russians\, The Chinese\, The Iranians… all the actors you would initially have thought to blame for something like this. An emergency meeting of the UN Security Council followed and for once there was agreement. We have to find out what happened. And put an end to it. Right the fuck now. \nIntelligence agencies soon determined the source to be a massive cyberattack aimed at the satellites themselves. Something that could only be pulled off from a seriously powerful uplink station. Following old SIGINT data\, the likely location came up as somewhere in the Beqaa Valley\, Lebanon. The Lebanese\, furious at the accusation\, went to see for themselves but none of their patrols returned to base. Just scattered reports of ground combat and pilots shouting in panic as they evaded SAMs. \nCENTCOM is now tasked with finding out what’s going on\, and ending it. Any and all resources in the area\, regardless of nationality\, will be pressed into service. If by nightfall the situation has not been resolved by conventional means\, only the nuclear option remains. One that would spell disaster for millions of civilians. \n1.2 Area of operations\nBeqaa Valley\, Lebanon\, and surrounding countries. \n1.3 Time and weather\n* September 10 – 2001\n* 06:00 local time (just after sunrise)\n* BKN 8/18/30\n* Wind from 250 / 7\n* FORCE QNH 2992 / 1013\n* Temp 21°C \n1.4 Air threats\nUnknown. There is at least one operational airfield in the area\, Rayak. However\, records do not suggest any fighter or strike aircraft having landed there in recent time. Only transport planes and helos. \n1.5 Ground threats\nUnknown. \nAs for surface-to-air threats\, ELINT indicates at least one late Soviet era search radar. Recon aircraft were engaged at ranges indicating “double digit” SAMs such as SA-10 or SA-11. \nLebanese ground forces were met with overwhelming firepower from tanks and artillery\, suggesting at least battalion strength. \n2 MISSION\nLocate the uplink site. If at all possible\, gather physical evidence and prisoners. Then terminate the threat. \n3 EXECUTION\n3.1 Commander’s intent\nCENTCOM will coordinate all available forces to perform reconnaissance and then develop a strike plan. \n3.2 Packages\nAlpha and Bravo\n \n3.3 Endstate\nELINT and SIGNINT collected\nAerial reconnaissance conducted\nLimiting enemy positions located \n3.4 Rules of engagement\nROE: C\nAs per SPINS \n3.5 Acceptable level of risk\nALR: EXTREME\nAs per SPINS \n3.6 Package tasking\nPackage Alpha\nConduct ELINT in NAI 1\nConduct Aerial reconnaissance in NAI 2\nBe prepared to support Package Bravo with SEAD\nBe prepared to intercept hostile aircrafts \nPackage Bravo\nLocate enemy forces along WOMBAT\, SQUIRREL and ELEPHANT\nConduct SIGINT in NAI 1 \n4 ADMINISTRATION AND LOGISTICS\n4.1 Airfield operations\n* Ramat David\n* TCN: 84X\n* Active runway: 27 \n* Damascus Intl\n* Actice runway: 23R\n* Traffic freq: 272.00 \n* Kiryat Shmona\n* Active runway: 21\n* Traffic freq: 271.00 \n4.2 Carrier operations\n* CASE 1\n* BRC: 278\n* Departure time: According to PL\n* Departure sequence: According to PL\n* Charlie time: 08:15 \nAs per Carrier Ops SPINS\n \n4.3 Tankers\nAs per Aerial Refueling SOP \n5 COMMAND AND CONTROL\n5.1 Commander\n* Mission commander is DEADGUN\n* Mission commander deputy: TBA \n5.2 Frequencies\nAs per Comms SOP \n5.3 Authentication\nRAMROD: KPISTRULEZ\nAs per Authentication SOP \n5.4 Freq flow (Airfield flights)\n6\, 7\, 9\, 3\, 7\, 6\nRemain on Tower (ch 7) during startup and departure. SUMMARY:Training Tuesday - Split Pop Attack
DESCRIPTION:What\n2-ship Split Pop Attack from multiple directions. Altitude deconfliction.\nWhy\nTo minimize exposure in areas where small arms\, AAA and MANPADS are present.\nWhom\nAny plane able to have bombs and speed of minimum 430knts. We split in 2 groups\, Alpha and Bravo. More details in briefing.\n\nHow\nIn flights of two\, we head towards the target area at high speed and low altitude. Once 5nm from the target\, each ship breaks 30 degrees in opposite direction from the target heading. When target is at the 4/8 o’clock position\, and on lead call\, pop-up and turn into the target. Altitude deconfliction applies. On release\, egress opposite ingress heading. At 5nm\, disengage heading 300 and fall back into the stack at your assigned altitude. If we get the flow going\, we should be able to go 4 rounds\, dropping 2x GBU-38 or 2x MK-82 each round. Feel free to switch side and bomb-type between the rounds. The Syrian Regime\, bolstered by Russian military support\, has been making rapid advances around Damascus.\nU.S. intelligence failed to anticipate just how effective the Russian Maskirovka tactics can be\, and now Syrian forces are pushing forward in a surprising pace\, threatening the capital. \nIn the north\, Al-Dumays airfield represents both as a logistic hub and potential staging ground for future airstrikes. Its neutralization is crucial to keeping the enemy at bay.\nMeanwhile\, in the south\, the A-10 pilot’s capture could send a signal of vulnerability of American forces in the region. SUMMARY:Training Tuesday - IFR
DESCRIPTION:Training Mission: IFR \nPlanned Training: \n1. F/A-18C\n– IFR \n2. F-16C\n– IFR \n3. F-14B\n– IFR \n4. AJS 37\n– IFR \n5. A-10C II\n– IFR \n6. AH-64D\n– IFR \n7. AWACS/ATC\n– IFR \n  \nInstrument Flight Rules (‘IFR’)\, simply put\, covers flying without visual references outside of the cockpit through the usage of various navigational aids\, such as TACAN & GPS. This week’s training session will be a focused exercise on IFR operations nearest the airfield\, meaning takeoffs and landings in low-visibility conditions. \nAircraft not capable of IFR operations are recommended to organise their own training on the secondary server due to the weather and lightning conditions. \nAgenda \n\nHow to aviate and navigate using solely the instruments. We’ll cover the generics that apply to all aircraft. We will not cover aircraft specific topics. Make sure you understand how to operate all necessary equipment (radios\, TACAN\, ILS etc) beforehand\nHow to read and interpret STAR and SID charts for airfield departures or landings.\nRadials & DME\n\n  \nThe event will begin with a quick theoretical session on IFR. This is not mandatory\, and meant for those who are uncertain of the basics\, such as interpreting an SID/STAR chart. The “usual” briefing will commence at 19:30. \nUnless otherwise requested\, all aircraft will remain in controlled airspace\, flying a route assigned by ATC. This route is meant to practice basic instrument flying. If you wish to practice on your own\, say so when checking in. \nRecommended reading prior to the exercise: https://wiki.masterarms.se/index.php/Radials \n  \nRMD STAR \n  \n  \n  \n  \nRMD SID \n  \n

In the aftermath of the strike\, there were loud complaints from the usual suspects – Russia\, Cuba\, China and the Arab League. Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei went so far as to describe the attack as “terrorism”\, threatening to punish those responsible for “attacks against Islam”. \nDetermined to show resolve\, president Clinton ordered the US 5th fleet to conduct a freedom of navigation exercise in the Persian Gulf. Two days later\, on August 22nd\, Carrier Strike Group 11 lead by USS Theodore Roosevelt transited the Strait of Hormuz at full battle stations. As CENTCOM expected\, the Iranians eventually stood down and the strike group proceeded into the Gulf\, staying just outside Iran’s internationally recognized  territorial waters. \nBefore dawn on August 23rd\, with the strike group about to turn south toward Qatar\, a surprise strike was launched by the Iranians. A massive volley of Silkworm missiles overwhelmed the strike group’s air defenses\, damaging several ships including the Roosevelt herself which was rendered unable to conduct air operations. \nSimultaneous Shahab (Scud-B) missile strikes on airfields in Saudi\, Kuwait\, Qatar and UAE disabled most of the allied airfields in the region. \nRoosevelt and the rest of CSG 11 must now limp towards relative safety in Qatar\, with little friendly air cover. Meanwhile\, it is assumed the Iranians are reloading and repositioning their silkworm launchers for a second attack. One that would surely spell doom for the Carrier and indeed all of CSG-11. Adding insult to injury\, the Iranian Air Force is likely to launch sorties as soon as they realize the extent of the damage. \nRushing to the scene from the Arabian Sea is CSG 9\, led by USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). For most of the day\, they will be the only significant USN resource in the area. \nUSAF performed a quick strike on Tunb Island immediately after the attack on CSG-11 but were then stuck at Al Dhafra when the SCUDs hit. The Air Force is now preparing to mount a more significant air presence over the Gulf but most of the resources will have to be ferried long distances before they become available. CENTCOM estimates another 6 hours before full operational strength is achieved in the AO. Until then\, USAF will rely on a few squadrons based in Saudi Arabia and UAE. \n1.2 Area of operations\nPersian Gulf \n1.3 Time and weather\n* Aug 23 1998\n* 05:30 local time\n* SCT/BKN 18/20\n* Wind from 250 / 4\n* Temp 21°C\n* FORCE QNH 2992 / 1013 \n1.4 Air threats\nMiG-21\, MiG-29\, F-4E\, F-14A \nF-4E\, MiG-21 and MiG-29 based in Bandar Abbas\, Qeshm and Lavan. \nF4-E and F-14 based in Shiraz. \n1.5 Ground threats\nSA-10 Bandar Abbas. Supplies are limited and we expect that this will at most buy us 1-2 hours before repairs can be made. \nCSG-9 with USS Abraham Lincoln will transit from the Gulf of Oman through the Strait of Hormuz with the intention of conducting strikes on Iranian installations as well as providing air cover. \nUSAF will provide air cover for CSG-11 until CSG-9 is on station. \n3.2 Packages\nThe mission contains 3 packages\, callsign VULTURE (USAF fixed wing)\, JACKAL (rotary wing) and ORCA (USN fixed wing).\n \n3.3 Order of events\nStage 1 (from mission start 05:30 = 16.30 IRL): \nORCA sets up CAP focused on the Strait of Hormuz and conducts SEAD/DEAD (SA-10 Bandar Abbas and SA-2 Qeshm).\nJACKAL strikes Qeshm Island with focus on disabling aircraft on the ground.\nVULTURE sets up CAP focused on CSG-11\, currently west of Lavan Island\, and conducts SEAD/DEAD (SA-2 Lavan Island and SA-6 site NW of Lavan) \nStage 2 (from approx 08:00 = 19.00 IRL):\nORCA continues CAP mission\, expecting increasing opposition as IRAF air bases are repaired.\nVULTURE and JACKAL focus on finding and destroying Iranian Silkworm launchers. \nStage 3 (from approx 10:00 = 21.00 IRL):\nAll packages perform retaliatory strikes on Iranian air and naval bases. \nFor all flights: Each stage represents a potential respawn point\nVipers use Venom4 to respawn at Al Dhafra – flight has the same WP as Indy and Jester \n3.4 Rules of engagement\nROE: C\nAs per SPINS \n3.5 Acceptable level of risk\nALR: HIGH\nAs per SPINS \n3.6 Flight tasking\nPackage ORCA (Lead: ELVIS51)\nELVIS5 \n* Maintain CAP as directed by STINGRAY\n* During Phase 3 assist in Strike on Bandar Abbas if air picture allows \nLoadout: FL decides (no limit on # of AIM-54) \nWaypoints:\n1. \nIt is now the early hours of August 23rd and CSG-11 will turn south\, its mission accomplished. Routine CAP is airborne and the USAF is still on standby in the Emirates. \n1.2 Area of operations\nPersian Gulf \n1.3 Time and weather\n* Aug 23 1998\n* 03:00 local time\n* SCT/BKN 18/20\n* Wind from 250 / 4\n* Temp 21°C\n* FORCE QNH 2992 / 1013 \n1.4 Air threats\nMiG-21\, MiG-29\, F-14A \nMiG-21 and MiG-29 based in Bandar Abbas\, Bandar Jask\, Qeshm\, Tunb and Lavan. SUMMARY:The Kandahar Chronicles: Mission 1 - Operation Desert Serpent
DESCRIPTION:Mission Name: Operation Desert Serpent\nAircraft: AH-64 Apache (RAGE9) – 2 ship\, OH-58 Kiowa Warrior (BLACKJACK4) – 1 ship\nBackground: Insurgent intelligence indicates a critical weapons cache and a High-Value Target (HVT) are being moved out of the Spin Boldak area\, using the transition of dawn to mask their movement toward a major distribution hub.\nIntel: The HVT convoy consists of 3 technicals and 2 cargo trucks. They are traveling from Spin Boldak (near the Pakistan border) and are expected to be moving northbound or northwest along primary or secondary routes. The Kiowa (BLACKJACK4) will act as the forward scout and designator. The Apaches (RAGE9) will be the primary strike platform.\n\nAir Defense Threat: Expect standard small arms and 1-2 MANPADS teams. CRITICAL: Intelligence also suggests the presence of an emplaced ZU-23-2 (Soviet twin 23mm AAA) protecting a choke point along the likely route. You must neutralize this threat to ensure the safety of your aircraft.\nRules of Engagement (ROE): Positive Identification (PID) is mandatory. Civilian traffic\, consisting of unescorted civilian vehicles\, is likely on the main roads. You must confirm the target as the 3 Technicals and 2 Cargo Trucks before engaging. Avoid engaging near civilian vehicles.\n\n\nObjectives:\n\nLocate and positively identify the HVT convoy using the Kiowa Warrior.\nDestroy the HVT convoy.\n\n\nMission Success: All five HVT vehicles destroyed\, and no civilian casualties.\nMission Failure: HVT convoy escapes\, or friendly aircraft are destroyed\, or any confirmed civilian casualties occur.\nWeather: Clear skies\, light winds from the west (5-10 knots).\nTime of Day: 05:15 Local (Sunrise)
