Now in the early hours of D+2\, recon units advancing along the valley and the M1 Highway towards Homs were suddenly engaged by concentrated fire from artillery\, mortars and tanks. It seems the enemy has chosen this chokepoint to make their stand. They invaded finland to protect russian minorities. Initial gains due to the element of surprise went up to a front line only kilometers east of Kemi Tornio where the initiative stalled. Even the americans are actively supporting the operations\, in an eager move to regain trust in europe.\nIn a move to break the enemy’s back air operations focus an the area KUUSAMO – LOUKHI – ZELENOBORSKI – KANDALAKSHA with the intend of cutting off the whole peninsula from supplies\, hoping to entirely collapse the enemy’s ability to continue fighting and force them back into negotiations. \n \nOwn ground operations are currently focussing along the axis KEMI TORNIO – KUUSAMO (small blue arrows) in an attempt to cut off enemy forces further by cutting off PYAOZERSKI\, the only road and rail connection to KUUSAMO which is currently the main supply axis for the russian forces in Finland. \n1.2 Area of operations\nTodays mission will take us deep into enemy territory\, about 75nm east of ALAKOURTTI airbase.\nWaypoints SLEDGE: \n \nAttention\, FENRIS 6 starts from Voujärvi and will have:\n– 1: Voujärvi\n– 2: Penetration point\n– 3: Ingress point\n– 4: Alakourtti \nWaypoints REAPER: \n \nSatellite image from Alakourtti some hours ago: \n \n  \n1.3 Time and weather\n* February 10 – 2025\n* 10:00 local time\n* Scattered\n* Wind 320 / 2\n* QNH 3020 / 1023 \n1.4 Air threats\nMiG-29\, Su-27\, MiG-31. \nMiG-29 and Su-27 are often used as point interceptors\, while MiG-31s are regularly conducting CAP and sweep sorties along the front line. \n1.5 Ground threats\nAll from MANPADS to SA-10. Mostly consisting of SA-10 and SA-11 batteries on airports and SA-15 as point defense. Most of these are connected into their integrated air defense system (IADS)\, posing a serious threat to own operations.\n– One SA-10 is active at ALAKOURTTI.\n– Earlier recon sorties show indications of SA-15 near ZELENOBORSKI and at least one SA-11 northwest of the target. It seems to not cover the target\, but it’s rather close. \n1.6 Friendly forces\nN/A\, we are the only blue forces in the AO. \n1.7 Civilian/3rd part\nNothing. It is pretty cold\, civilians have left the area and the area is sparsely populated. \n2 MISSION\nTodays operation aims to disable the supply area in ZELENOBORSKI\, located east of ALAKOURTTI and south of KANDALAKSHA about 75nm in russian territory. This is one storage area supporting enemy operations near SAVUKOSKI\, threatening to push the front line further in the VOUJÄRVI / ROVANIEMI direction. \n3 EXECUTION\n3.1 Commander’s intent\nTake out the supply area at ZELENOBORSKI\, consisting of\n– 2x ammo bunker\n– 2x fuel tank\n– 1x railway station \n \nThe task for the helicopters is to relieve pressure on KEMI TORNIO by attacking ground forces east of that point.\n \nThere is only one main road\, and currently\, the enemy holds these positions. The positions marked with “Skogsfarp” are places on which you can rearm if we get to hold these. You are not expected to progress all the way to Kuusamo\, but to hopefully progress up to the first FARP\, which is 30nm east of KEMI TORNIO.\nIt is unknown which units are there\, but there is at least one group of artillery located roughly 15nm east of KEMI TORNIO near the intersection of road 923 coming down from TERVOLA and road 924 going from SIMO along the river northbound\, between the both first\, most western blue arrows on the picture above. \n3.2 Packages\nThe mission contains 2 packages\, callsign SLEDGE which consists of the strike package. The other package is REAPER and is tasked with relieving the pressure on KEMI TORNIO. \n3.3 Order of events\n  \nPackage SLEDGE will form up over VOUJÄRVI (Steerpoint 2 for all except of FENRIS who starts from that point). The tasking for SLEDGE consists of two phases: \n1. Disabling the SA-10 at ALAKOURTTI airfield.\nIn order to do so\, a flight of F/A-18 will engage the target with TALDS\, followed up by F-16 (VENOM 4) and AJS-37 (FENRIS 6) that will use hard-kill munition to take the site down for good. According to intel\, there is an EWR to the north of the airfield that should be taken out. Expect SA-15 as point defense. As a minimal requirement\, emptying out the SA-10 site with decoys can be considered as a success for this phase.\nVENOM 4 will be tasked with taking out the SA-10 radar while it is busy with TALD and JSOW from (AI) hornets and will afterwards be top cover for FENRIS 6 who will strike Alakourtti with BK90.\nIf remaining ordnance and fuel allows\, the further tasking for VENOM will be supporting JESTER 1 on their way in.\nMUSTANG 4 will provide TARCAP during the operation\, and\, if possible\, cover the retreat of JESTER 1 and BENDER 2 later. \n2. When the TALD flight consisting of 4 hornets has dropped the first JSOW / TALD wave\, JESTER 1 and BENDER 2 will penetrate russian airspace at waypoint 3. If the SA-10 is considered supressed at this point\, the attack will follow a HI-HI-HI scheme\, otherwise\, it will be HI-LO-HI\, with a nap of the earth profile after steerpoint 3 and a popup 20nm prior to target. Expect SA-15 to be active around the target area\, so release your weapons from altitude which will also give the penetrators enough kinetic energy to actually break the bunkers.\nAccording to intel\, we have one SA-11 northwest of the target.\nAs enemy interceptors are expected to appear within minutes of the attack being known\, we need to be fast. It is recommended to keep the package tight and pretty fast.\nGreen vector is the way you came in\, as there might be air defenses in the south.\nTrip distance is about 200nm to the target\, so about 400nm in total. \nThe whole operation is expected to shield off package REAPER from any enemy fighters during that time. \nPackage REAPER will hunt enemy ground units from KEMI TORNIO to point SKOGSFARP\, about 30nm east of KEMI TORNIO. Enemy troops are holding some bridges along the road from SIMO (on the coast) to point SKOGSFARP\, and are suspected to have placed artillery along the intersection of the road coming from TERVOLA and the one coming north from SIMO. \n3.4 Rules of engagement\nROE: C\nAs per SPINS \n3.5 Acceptable level of risk\nALR: MEDIUM\nAs per SPINS \n3.6 Flight tasking\nEvery pre-planned flight in Package SLEDGE (except FENRIS) has the following waypoints: \n1: KITTILÄ\n2: VOUJÄRVI\n3: PENETRATION POINT – at this point\, we either stick to a high profile or drop to low altitude.\n4: IP POINT\n5: TARGET\n6: ALAKOURTTI – DO NOT OVERFLY. This is as a reference to a known SA-10 position.\nEGRESS is expected to go the same route just backwards\, unless the SA-10 is gone and we can egress on high altitude. \nFENRIS 6 has\n1: VOUJÄRVI\n2: PENETRATION POINT – at this point\, we either stick to a high profile or drop to low altitude.\n3: IP POINT\n4: ALAKOURTTI\nThese steerpoints are not mandatory\, neither is FENRIS 6 required to stick to them- but coordination with VENOM flight should take place. \nFor Package REAPER\, the waypoints will be as follows: \n1. KEMI TORNIO\n2. Own troops\n3 to 6. Road to first FARP point\, known enemy position \nPackage SLEDGE (Lead: BENDER2 (?) )\n  \nARCTIC1 \nTBA \nELVIS5 \nTBA \nFENRIS6 \nTBA \nHAWG8 \nTBA \nRAGE9 \nTBA \n4 ADMINISTRATION AND LOGISTICS\n4.1 Airfield operations\nKITTILÄ airbase. While ultimately unsuccessful\, it marked a clear change of pace for the campaign. We also saw a large transfer of aircraft from Iraq to the Shiraz air base in Iran. \nWorryingly\, there was also an incident involving the Iranian Navy and Air Force centered around the air base on Lavan Island. An F/A-18 flight was fired upon by naval vessels and a subsequent air engagement saw the loss of one Hornet to enemy fire. Retribution was swift but incomplete. \nCENTCOM has decided we need to send a very clear message to Iran not to interfere in the campaign\, but care must be taken to avoid an all-out war. As a measured response\, the base on Lavan Island will be annihilated\, along with any naval forces within a 15 nm radius. Other Iranian forces will be spared\, as long as they do not interfere with the operation. \n1.2 Area of operations\nEastern Persian Gulf\, Lavan Island and surrounding area. \n1.3 Time and weather\n* Jan 25th – 1991\n* 07:00 local time\n* SCT 12/14\, FEW 40\n* Wind from 310 (to 130) / 8 kts\n* FORCE QNH 2981 \n1.4 Air threats\nMiG-21\, MiG-29\, F4\, F5\, F-14\, Mi-24 \n1.5 Ground/Surface threats\nSA-5 in Shiraz. Multiple SA-2 and SA-6 along the Iranian coastline. \nPossible Silkworm launchers on Lavan Island or nearby coastline. \nThe Iranian Navy mainly consists of corvettes\, small frigates and numerous fast attack craft. \n1.6 Friendly forces\nCoalition air and naval power is present in the immediate area\, not conducting any active operations at present. \n1.7 Civilian/3rd part\nCivilian air and sea traffic is suspended \n2 MISSION\nDisable the air base on Lavan Island. Sink any naval vessels in or around the island. \nIranian naval vessels outside (15 nm+) of Lavan Island will be intercepted but given a chance to turn around. Should they fail to do so\, we are authorized to sink them. \nMaintain air superiority over the AO. Engage any Iranian aircraft that show hostile intent\, as defined in the ROE section. \nDestroy any SAM-sites considered a threat\, regardless of location. \n3 EXECUTION\n3.1 Commander’s intent\nA combined strike force of A-10\, AH-64\, AV8 and Mirage 2000 will hit Lavan Island with a focus on runway\, Silkworm launchers\, surface-to-air installations\, and remaining ships. Care must be taken to prevent fast attack boats from exiting the area in the direction towards our Carrier Battle Group. \nHornets will be responsible for intercepting any Iranian naval forces trying to reinforce Lavan Island from the east. \nVipers will provide SEAD cover. \nTomcats and Hornets will provide CAP. \n3.2 Packages\nARES – A10\, AV8\, M2000\, AH-64 \nPOSEIDON – F/A-18 Anti-ship \nATHENA – F-16 SEAD \nARTEMIS – F/A-18 and F-14 CAP \n \n3.3 Order of events\nPkg ARTEMIS establish CAP \nPkg ATHENA suppress SAM-sites as needed for subsequent attack on Lavan Island by pkg ARES \nPkg POSEIDON proceed east of Lavan Island\, search and intercept Iranian naval vessels. \n3.4 Rules of engagement\nROE: C – applies to Lavan Island and surrounding waters up to 15 nm \nROE: B – applies to all other Iranian forces unless otherwise stated by STINGRAY \nAs per SPINS \n3.5 Acceptable level of risk\nALR: MEDIUM\nAs per SPINS \n3.6 Flight tasking\nPackage ARTEMIS\nARCTIC1 \n\nDepart Mother\nEstablish CAP as instructed by STINGRAY\n\nLoadout: FL decides \nWaypoints:\n1.
