Until it’s suddenly not there anymore. No satellite television\, no global positioning systems\, no long range communications\, and perhaps most alarming for a nation state – no satellite intel. \nFor the first few minutes it was thought to be just a ‘glitch’. But nothing came back online. Panic followed. The realisation set in\, that right now someone could be launching a first strike and you wouldn’t know until the warheads started falling from the sky. Air Force One took off. Alert interceptors scrambled all over the continent. Strategic forces went to high alert and for a moment it seemed that someone might actually go ahead and pull THE trigger just for fear of being the last to unholster their gun. Then reports started to trickle in that this wasn’t just affecting us. It was everyone. The Russians\, The Chinese\, The Iranians… all the actors you would initially have thought to blame for something like this. An emergency meeting of the UN Security Council followed and for once there was agreement. We have to find out what happened. And put an end to it. Right the fuck now. \nIntelligence agencies soon determined the source to be a massive cyberattack aimed at the satellites themselves. Something that could only be pulled off from a seriously powerful uplink station. Following old SIGINT data\, the likely location came up as somewhere in the Beqaa Valley\, Lebanon. The Lebanese\, furious at the accusation\, went to see for themselves but none of their patrols returned to base. Just scattered reports of ground combat and pilots shouting in panic as they evaded SAMs. \nCENTCOM is now tasked with finding out what’s going on\, and ending it. Any and all resources in the area\, regardless of nationality\, will be pressed into service. If by nightfall the situation has not been resolved by conventional means\, only the nuclear option remains. One that would spell disaster for millions of civilians. \n1.2 Area of operations\nBeqaa Valley\, Lebanon\, and surrounding countries. \n1.3 Time and weather\n* September 10 – 2001\n* 06:00 local time (just after sunrise)\n* BKN 8/18/30\n* Wind from 250 / 7\n* FORCE QNH 2992 / 1013\n* Temp 21°C \n1.4 Air threats\nUnknown. There is at least one operational airfield in the area\, Rayak. However\, records do not suggest any fighter or strike aircraft having landed there in recent time. Only transport planes and helos. \n1.5 Ground threats\nUnknown. \nAs for surface-to-air threats\, ELINT indicates at least one late Soviet era search radar. Recon aircraft were engaged at ranges indicating “double digit” SAMs such as SA-10 or SA-11. \nLebanese ground forces were met with overwhelming firepower from tanks and artillery\, suggesting at least battalion strength. \n1.6 Friendly forces\nMainly air power: One Carrier Strike Group in the eastern part of the Mediterranean. Israeli forces at Ramat David. Russian forces at Bassel Al-Assad. Other nationalities joining in as we speak. Limited ground forces from Israel and Lebanon. \n1.7 Civilian/3rd part\nCivilian air traffic is firmly grounded. There has been no evacuation of civilians from the Beqaa Valley area. \n2 MISSION\nLocate the uplink site. If at all possible\, gather physical evidence and prisoners. Our onboard sensors have visually located a possible location for the jamming\, which was later confirmed by our A-10 pilots who managed to pinpoint the signal to the same area. At the same time\, we have collected information from active air defenses in the area. The time to strike is now! \n1.2 Area of operations\nBeqaa Valley\, Lebanon\, and surrounding countries. \n1.3 Time and weather\n* September 10 – 2001\n* 15:00 local time\n* BKN 8/18/30\n* Wind from 250 / 7\n* FORCE QNH 2992 / 1013\n* Temp 26°C \n1.4 Air threats\nTwo Il-76 “Candid” and two Mi-8 “Hip” located at Rayak airfield.\nRrecords do not suggest any fighter or strike aircraft having landed at Rayak in recent time. \n1.5 Ground threats\nSA-10 “Grumble” located south of Rayak airfield. \nSeveral mobile SAM systems are active in the area:\nOne SA-22 “Greyhound” was located northwest of Rayak airfield.\nOne SA-15 “Gauntlet” located 8NM east of Rayak airfield.\nOne SA-15 “Gauntlet” located 9NM north of Rayak airfield.\nOne SA-8 “Gecko” located 14NM southwest of Rayak airfield. \nExpect these systems to have regrouped by the time of our next attack. However\, the assessment is that their tasks remain the same. One SA-22 as point-defence at Rayak airfield\, one SA-15 point-defence at EWR\, one SA-15 north of airfield to deny any attack from the north towards Rayak area and SA-8s\, ZSU-23s as close protection to enemy troops in the area. Expect all infantry to carry MANPADS\, mainly SA-18s. \nMultiple ground units have been located along the roads towards Rayak. Company sized force defending SQUIRREL\, Platoon to Company sized force defending WOMBAT. The platoon sized force defending ELEPHANT was reduced in nubres by our attack helicotpers during this mornings operation. The assessment is that only a small outpost (36S YC 7497 3402\, 4654ft) remains. This will be our way in to Rayak. \n2 MISSION\nDestroy the uplink site. \n3 EXECUTION\n3.1 Endstate\nThe mission is completed when the uplink site is destroyed and the enemy no longer has the ability to continue their attacks. \n3.2 Concept of Operations\nInitially one package attacks SA-15 and SA-10\nThen one flight attacks EWR\nFinally one package attacks uplink site coordinated in time \nSimultaneously one package attacks against enemy ground forces and one flight supporting the advance of our own ground forces. \n3.3 Rules of engagement\nROE: C\nAs per SPINS \n3.4 Acceptable level of risk\nALR: EXTREME\nAs per SPINS \n3.5 Package tasking\nPackage Alpha\nNEUTRALIZE SA-10 NLT 101600 local\nNEUTRALIZE SA-15 close to EWR NLT 101600 local\nDESTROY uplink site\, coordinated in time and from at least two different directions\nBe prepared to SUPPORT package BRAVO and HAWG8 with SEAD\nBe prepared to INTERCEPT hostile aircrafts \nPackage Bravo\nSEIZE outpost (36S YC 7497 3402. 4654 FT)\nCLEAR ELEPHANT\nBe prepared to GUARD Charlie6-1 \nHAWG\nCONTAIN enemy ground forces at SQUIRREL\nBe prepared to SUPPORT package BRAVO / Charlie6-1 with BAI \nFENRIS\nDESTROY EWR\, ToT 101605 local \n4 ADMINISTRATION AND LOGISTICS\n4.1 Airfield operations\n* Ramat David\n* TCN: 84X\n* Active runway: 27 \n* Damascus Intl\n* Actice runway: 23R\n* Traffic freq: 272.00 \n* Kiryat Shmona\n* Active runway: 21\n* Traffic freq: 271.00 \n* FARP Damascus West\n* 37 S BT 2678 1262 elev 3238 ft\n* Beacon on AM 210 kHz \n4.2 Carrier operations\n* CASE 1\n* BRC: 278\n* Departure time: According to PL\n* Departure sequence: According to PL\n* Charlie time: 17:20 \nAs per Carrier Ops SPINS\n \n4.3 Tankers\nAs per Aerial Refueling SOP \n5 COMMAND AND CONTROL\n5.1 Commander\n* Mission commander is DEADGUN\n* Mission commander deputy: TBA \n5.2 Frequencies\nAs per Comms SOP \n5.3 Authentication\nRAMROD: KPISTRULEZ\nAs per Authentication SOP \n5.4 Freq flow (Airfield flights)\n6\, 7\, 9\, 3\, 7\, 6\nRemain on Tower (ch 7) during startup and departure. SUMMARY:In the Dark - Part II
DESCRIPTION:RSVP: 25 11 27 – 19:30 (please sign-up asap though\, as it makes things easier to plan)\nActivity: Mission – SEAD\, BAI\, STRIKE\nTheatre: Syria\nModules: Any modern or cold war era aircraft (but find a buddy to make it at least a 2-ship)\nPrerequisites: None (it is a daytime mission)\nVersion 1.2 \n\n Package ALPHA\n PL: kaninmat \nF/A-18C SEAD\nARCTIC11 (400): Moose\nARCTIC12 (401): kaninmat\nARCTIC13 (402): Johnny \nF/A-18C SEAD\nBENDER21 (404): deadlift\nBENDER22 (405): Makanan\nBENDER23 (406): Jaeger \n \n\n Flights\n AH-64D BAI\nRAGE92: MushroomLustard / BFQ\nRAGE92: Asken / Kingtiger45 \nKa-50 BAI\nORCA61: JackFlash\nORCA62: Puppysworth \nAJS 37 STRIKE\nFENRIS61: Fille\nFENRIS62: frefeh \nA-10C STRIKE\nPIG71: Hofftari\nPIG72: Ulvar\nPIG73: BigSwede \nF-16C CAP\nINDY91: pahi\nINDY92: undefined\nINDY93: Qvintus \nF-15E Strike\nHITMAN31: DeadGun \n \n\n Support\n AWACS\nSTINGRAY: Blichten\nSTINKRAY: Tony \nAirport\nGround: Apollo\nTower: Apollo \nGround Forces\nCHARLIE6: Nikemo \n \n1 SITUATION\n1.1 Overview\nGeneral overview as per briefing In the Dark pt1 \nThis morning’s reconnaissance of the area yielded good results. \n2 MISSION\nDestroy the uplink site. \n3 EXECUTION\n3.1 Endstate\nThe mission is completed when the uplink site is destroyed and the enemy no longer has the ability to continue their attacks. \n3.2 Concept of Operations\nInitially one flight attacks EWR\nThen one package suppress enemy air defences\nFinally two flights attacks uplink site \nSimultaneously one package supports the advance of our own ground forces in the south AO. \n3.3 Rules of engagement\nROE: C\nAs per SPINS \n3.4 Acceptable level of risk\nALR: EXTREME\nAs per SPINS \n3.5 Tasking\nPackage Alpha\nSEAD with ADM-141\, H-hour – 3 until H-hour + 1\nSEAD with AGM-88 on H-hour\nBe prepared to SUPPORT package BRAVO with SEAD (30min after orders)\nBe prepared to INTERCEPT hostile aircrafts\nBe prepared to DESTROY uplink site \nRAGE9\nCLEAR ELEPHANT\nBe prepared to GUARD Charlie6\nBe prepared to DESTROY uplink site (30min after orders) \nORCA6\nCLEAR SQUIRREL \nPIG7\nDESTROY uplink site on H-hour \nINDY9\nDESTROY uplink site on H-hour \nFENRIS6\nDESTROY EWR\, ToT 101545 local\nREFUEL/REARM at Damascus Intl.
